Chorégies d’Orange

Opera beneath two thousand years of history.

The immense Roman theatre at Orange gives opera a scale and an atmosphere unlike any conventional house. It also brings the particular demands of open-air performance: great distances, changing light, wind and weather, and an audience reading surtitles beneath the night sky.

Across Europe and beyond, the work has extended from France, Belgium and Switzerland to Germany, Austria, Finland and Hungary, with projects also undertaken in the United States, Canada and Japan.

Richard has also collaborated with leading orchestras and ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, Ensemble Pygmalion, the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
